Why is life so hard?

Life feels hard because it constantly throws challenges, change, and uncertainty at you.

Life feels hard because it constantly throws challenges, change, and uncertainty at you. And when you're in the middle of it, it feels personal—like life is working against you. But what if it’s not?

The truth is, life isn’t meant to be easy. It’s meant to shape you. The difference between feeling stuck and moving forward comes down to how you handle it.

Here’s how to make life easier:

1. Embrace the Challenges

It’s easy to think life is happening to you, but what if it’s happening for you? You’ve heard this before, but it only clicks when you stop pouring your energy into frustration and start using it for solutions. Challenges aren’t here to break you—they’re here to build you. The sooner you stop resisting, the sooner you’ll grow.

I used to think life was just unfair, and somehow, it would magically turn around. I’d imagine my problems getting solved like some miracle would happen—but reality kept settling in. I realized that waiting around and staying quiet wouldn’t change anything.

In my mid-20s, it finally hit me—everything was riding on my shoulders, and only I could solve my problems. That’s when I stopped avoiding challenges and started facing them. I pushed myself to grow the confidence I needed to handle my own battles.

And you know what helped? Self-help content. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s a waste of time. It’s not. The biggest thing it did for me was make me realize:

  • No one is coming to save you. You either save yourself or you let yourself sink.

  • Everyone is struggling with something. Some people have lifeboats, others are treading water, but we’re all trying to stay afloat.

Understanding this took the pressure off. I stopped comparing my life to everyone else’s and started focusing on my own path.

2. Accept That Change is Uncomfortable

Staying the same feels safe, but in the long run, it hurts more. Change is uncomfortable because it pulls you out of what’s familiar, but that’s exactly where growth happens. Life gets easier when you stop fighting change and start shaping it to work in your favor. Adaptability isn’t a skill—it’s a mindset. The faster you adjust, the faster you move forward.

Accept it, move on and let's fucking go. Sometimes you need life to knock you down, but when it does get up fast and be ready to hit back. I was a sophomore in high school, during gym class a soccer ball came rolling by my feet, without thinking I kicked it, sure enough it hit this big kid right in the face. Some laughed and he walked over, instantly I knew I had a problem. I apologized because I really didn't mean to do that but he pushed me down to the ground anyways, I got up instantly right in his face and said " wtf I said it was an accident" others quickly gathered around and deescalated the situation. I'm not a fighter and I don't like altercation and if we fought I might have lost but if I didn't get up I for sure lost. I would have lost a lot more than a stupid fight I would have lost my confidence and self worth. Now I have this mentality, if you take me down, you better kill me. That’s not just a fighter’s mentality—it’s how you survive life’s hardest challenges.

That's why always get up fast and face the change.

Because you only have a chance if you get up, if you stay down you lost for sure.

If you take me down, you better kill me. That’s not just a fighter’s mentality—it’s how you survive life’s hardest challenges. -Durmic

3. Focus on the Present

You feel overwhelmed because your mind is stuck in two places it doesn’t belong—the past and the future. Overthinking what’s behind you and worrying about what’s ahead drains your energy. The only moment you control is right now. Pour your energy into today, and let tomorrow take care of itself.

4. Set Clear Goals

Without goals, you drift. And drifting makes life feel harder because you don’t have direction. Set small, achievable goals to give yourself purpose and momentum. Every step forward, no matter how small, makes the journey feel meaningful. Progress—even if it’s slow—is what keeps you going.

Man, I struggled with this. For years. Mostly because of shiny object syndrome and not having clear intentions for my life. In my teens and early 20s, I had no clue what I wanted to do—no surprise, I’m sure you didn’t either. Even in my mid-20s, my vision was still unclear. But once I accepted that no one was coming to save me, I had to dig deep and work on the things I lacked. And one of the biggest things? Setting goals and actually trying to achieve them.

It took me years, but it was worth it. And there’s one piece of content that completely changed the game for me: The Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale. I listened to that speech on repeat—at least three times a week—because I wanted it to imprint into my brain.

The biggest lesson?

A success is anyone who is realizing a worthy predetermined ideal, because that’s what he or she decided to do.

That quote opened my eyes. It made me realize that all I had to do was keep the goal in my mind and keep moving toward it. Once I reached one goal, my mind unlocked to even bigger possibilities. Our brains literally make new connections when we do something new and repeat it. And the more I stayed consistent and persistent, the more I saw that I could and would achieve what I set my mind to.

5. Make Room for Joy

It’s easy to get caught up in the grind and forget to enjoy the ride. But life isn’t just about pushing through—it’s about living. Laugh. Explore. Give yourself permission to have fun. The hard parts become easier when you allow yourself to breathe.

Hard doesn’t mean impossible.

The more you lean into life’s lessons instead of resisting them, the lighter things will feel. Keep going—because every challenge you overcome is proof that you can handle whatever comes next.

I write because I’ve consumed a lot of self-help content, and while there’s so much of it out there, I’ve realized that true progress often comes from just a few key ideas. Those ideas—when fully understood and applied—can change everything.

I hope that one day, you gather bits of information from me and others, piece together what resonates, and use it to push forward with whatever you’re meant to do.
